The Heartbeat's March 2024 Thriller and Horror Writing Contest!
The Heartbeat is thrilled to announce the second of our monthly Heartbeat Writing Contests! For the month of March, The Heartbeat is calling upon Holy Heart students to write their own original thriller or horror stories or scenes to capture the gloom and uneasiness of the last month of winter. We are looking for works of the thriller/horror genre or any related subgenre. We encourage dark themes, grey characters and unsettling events, albeit school appropriate. Focus on any classic horror story elements, or create new, weird and creative scary fiction, though the stories must feature original characters or spins on classic archetypes. Think about strange weathers and happenings, such as the mists, fogs and late snows of March, or expand your story into other months. It is entirely up to you! We will accept any works of prose fiction (short stories or scenes), or poetry within the contest guidelines. Good luck and happy writing!
How to Enter and Submission Guidelines: 1. Write an original thriller or horror story, scene or poem. Submissions may have a maximum of 1000 words. Entrants must be Holy Heart students. There may be only one entry per person. 2. Submit your entries to @[email protected] in a .doc or PDF file format, using the subject line "Heartbeat March Writing Submission 2024". All submissions must be sent through an nlesd or nlschools email account.
The First Place Winner and Runner-Up will have their work published in the February 21st, 2024 issue of the Heartbeat newsletter. The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, March 20th at 3PM.
